Travel Vaccinations and advice

Vaccinations

The delivery of travel vaccines in Scotland changed and moved away from General Practice in April 2022.

Your GP no longer provides flu vaccination clinics, and these are now run by health board staff, usually in different venues. In a similar way a new travel health service has been developed in Lothian.

The following travel vaccines are available free on the NHS for the purpose of travel to patients living in Scotland. Those registered in NHS Lothian will be able to access them via the new NHS Lothian travel health clinics.

These vaccines are free because they protect against diseases thought to represent the greatest risk to public health if they were brought back into the UK:

  • Revaxis (Diphtheria, tetanus and polio)
  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A
  • Cholera

Information on travel vaccinations and anti-malarial tablets can be found on the following Fit for Travel NHS website

Some countries require proof of vaccination (for example, for polio or yellow fever vaccination), which must be documented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) before you enter or when you leave a country.
